Why Recycle?

Are you aware that millions of pounds of waste batteries are still finding their way into unsecured landfill sites annually?  Most of these batteries are generated from household garbage. Such as dry cell batteries, which are the small batteries that power flashlights, toys, cassette players, cameras, cell phones, hearing aids, watches and many other household items. They may or may not be rechargeable. Although "dry cell" batteries represent less than one (1%) percent of municipal solid waste weight, they account for fifty-two (52%) percent of all cadmium and eighty-eight (88%) percent of all mercury found in landfills. Householder's should save these and take them to your local household hazardous waste depot.

Businesses are required to register with the Ministry of the Environment and have these waste properly handled and disposed of in accordance with regulations.

The Battery Broker is committed to reducing and if at all possible, eliminating, the landfilling of waste batteries, wherever possible.  To achieve this goal, we not only believe in the 3 R's of recycling (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), we follow them to the letter.

The Three R's of Recycling

REDUCE
By having waste batteries recycled instead of being put into unsecured landfill. We help to reduce the amounts of pollutants and other harmful waste materials from entering our landfill sites and contaminating the land we live on, the air we breath and the water we drink.
REUSE
We make sure, with the help of our partners in recycling, that all metals, harmful materials and chemicals found in waste batteries are extracted, cleaned and reused.
RECYCLE
All plastic and other man made components of batteries are separated and ground up and remade into other useful items.

Batteries are one of the few things found in our society today, which are 100% recyclable.  That means, there is nothing left after recycling that can go into our unsecured landfill.

Since the Battery Broker's inception, in 1980, we have prevented the landfilling of over 15 million pounds of waste batteries.  We are very proud to say that we have never sent even one battery to a landfill site.

We are one of the very, very few environmental companies that operate a licensed transfer station that can make this claim and prove it.

We are doing our part for the environment.
