Storage of Waste Batteries

The following requirements should be followed for storage of all waste batteries for shipment.

All vented batteries should have vent caps tightly shut to avoid spillage during shipping.

All batteries are classified as a SOLID Waste type, even if they contain a liquid.

Incompatable battery types should not be mixed together, or the shippment must be sorted for complianace or applicable sorting fees will be applied.

Batteries must be stored in a dry place.

Store so that contacts cannot touch, cell shortage and heat build up can develop.

Batteries should be discharged prior to shipment.

Do not pack, store or ship batteries in tightly sealed containers.  This could result in the cells shorting and heat build up, leading to ignition of the combustible adjacent materials.

Transport Canada regulations must be observed.  For more information on Transport Canada regulations, please visit their web site. http://www.tc.gc.ca
