The Battery Broker Privacy Policy
At the Battery Broker Environmental Services Inc., we are commited to protecting the privacy of our clients. The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform our clients about The Battery Broker's practices related to the collection, use and disclosure of personal and business information that may be provided to us through this website or by other means related to providing you with the recycling serives you require.
Personal information is information that can be used to identify or contact you individually. Typically this includes your name, e-mail address, mailing address, and telephone number.
Business Information is information related to your company and is used to provide recycling and other services to your company. Typically this includes your company name, mailing and billing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, credit information (including credit card numbers), sales information and Ministry of the Environment registration numbers.
Accountability
The Battery Broker is responsible for maintaining and protecting all personal and business information about our clients in our care or control.
Identifying Purposes
You have a right to know how your information will be used. We will explain why we need your information before or when we collect it, if the purpose is not already clear. We will assume that the purpose is clearly identified when we use your personal or business information to:
- Fulfil your recycling service request.
- Update you as to the status of the material being recycled through the Battery Broker.
- Alert you to important changes in our recycling services or the legislative requirements in the Provence of Ontario.
- Ensure that you are properly registered for the types of hazardous battery wastes you generate for recycling.
The Battery Broker may use your personal or business information for secondary purposes such as:
- Telling you about special discounts or offers on our recycling services.
- Inviting you to participate in customer survey's or other opinion gathering devices.
The Battery Broker does not use your Personal or Business information to market our recycling Services or other third-parties products or services.
Aggregate data is general information about groups of customers, and does not identify individual customers. The Battery Broker may combine your information with that of other individuals or businesses to create aggregate data which we will use to improve our recycling services and develop new ones. For example, we may tell a third party how much of a certain type of battery we receive for recycling in a year, but not how much your business personally brought in for recycling.
The Battery Broker will not disclose your personal information to any third parties without your consent, except under the following limited circumstances:
- As is reasonably required to fulfill your recycling services, provided such third parties shall be bound to appropriate privacy requirements.
- To comply with a legal process such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena, court order or law enforcement request.
- To resolve a contractual dispute regarding your use of the Battery Broker's recycling services, or if your account may be involved in illegal activities.
Consent
The Battery Broker will only collect, use and disclose your personal or business information with your knowledge and consent, except where permitted or as required by law. The Battery Broker will not rent, sell, or otherwise distribute your personal or business information without your permission. Your consent to use your personal or business information will be implied for the purposes stated above.
You control any future secondary use of your personal or business information, such as sharing it with marketers. You can prevent future secondary use of your information by “opting out” when the Battery Broker collects your information or at anytime by simply contacting us. Opting out only applies to the secondary purposes because we may need to contact you regarding the status of your recycling or alert you to important information regarding our recycling services.
Limited Collection
The Battery Broker will only collect personal and business information for the purposes we've identified or for the primary uses as we've described above. We will always do this fairly and legally. There are several ways we'll collect information:
- Through the purchase of recycling services.
- Through a request for information.
- Through third parties who you authorise to share such information.
Whenever we ask for information that is not required for us to provide recycling services you have requested, we will mark those questions appropriately as optional.
Cookies
Cookies are a small file containing information that a website creates when you visit it. A cookie can track how and when you visit a website. Cookies cannot be used to see any other data on your computer, nor can they determine your e-mail address or identity.

At this time the Battery Broker does not employ the use of cookies on its website, but the addition of e-business services to our clients may require us to change that practice in the future.

The Battery Broker will not use or disclose your personal or business information other than for the purposes for which it was collected, with the exception of receiving your consent or as permitted or required by law. When providing information in response to a legal inquiry or order, we will verify it's validity and only disclose the information that is legally required.
The Battery Broker will keep information only as long as necessary for the identified purposes or as required by law. The Battery Broker will follow internally set guidelines and use care in the disposal, distruction or de-identification of personal or business information to prevent unauthorized parties from gaining access to the information.

The Battery Broker will keep your personal or business information as accurate, complete and up-to-date as necessary for the identified purposes for which it was collected. We encourage you to let us know if your contact information changes.
To change or update your personal or business information, please contact the Battery Broker and one or our friendly customer service reps will be happy to assist you.
Safeguards
We protect personal and business information in our possession and control by using security safeguard appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. The Battery Broker works to protect personal and business information from loss, misuse and unauthorised alteration by using industry-recognized security safeguards. We restrict internal access to personal and business information to select members of Battery Broker's staff.
Openness
This policy is an overview of information about our policies and practices related to the management of personal and business information. Any changes or modifications to our privacy practices will be posted in this policy for 30 days before they take effect. We will not make retroactive changes to the practices associated with your personal or business information without your consent.
Individual Access
Subject to exceptions as permitted or mandated by law and subject to your written request for such information, The Battery Broker will inform you of the existence, use and disclosure of your personal or business information and give you access to that information. You have the right to challenge the accuracy and completeness of your information and have it amended as appropriate.
